One new project, too many decisions

Friday, August 8th, 2008

So I finally have a real community project to get my little hands into. Even though I already had plenty of tasks I need to finish, I am ever so excited about this one! I’m not saying I hate this website, but as a personal blogging/graphics website, it is nowhere near as interesting to me as making a website for a community of people! Knowing that I’m not just making a website for myself makes me feel great! Plus I need the experience!

So what is it? It is a World of Warcraft guild website! Two guilds on the Firetree server are about to make a merge! Being the sister and friend of the current leaders, I wanted to help out. I want to make a guild website with all the basics and more. I don’t only want raid schedules and character information, I want a website that will bring the guild members close together. I want to make the members feel like family!

So I’ll probably use Nuoriffic for the domain, since really nuoriffic is doing nothing but hosting little things at the moment. Plus the name would go with our guild name, Narcoleptic Unicorns, which came from the initials “NUO”.

Nuoriffic MB will still be around for awhile, but might end up merging with in the new website.

Anyways, I’m trying to make a decision: Drupal or Joomla? Both look really nice and have plenty of nifty extensions, but I can’t decide which would be right for the new website!

Where ever you go, mEgo!

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

I haven’t updated in awhile, so I decided I will share a neat little thing called mEgo! Now I wouldn’t call it useful, but it is a very cute idea! The best way I can describe mEgo is like a small portable profile! MEgo works with Flickr, Twitter, Amazon, YouTube, PhotoBucket, Last.FM, Del.icio.us, NetFlix, and even RSS feeds. You don’t really need me to explain it, as I have included my mEgo in this post!

LJXP

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

Now that ljxp has been updated to work with WordPress version 2.5, I have reinstalled it! Hurrah!

I’ve also added some other plugins. One of my favorites being Lighter Menus. It makes navigating the Wordpress administration area 200 times faster!

I also wanted to try SimpleLife, but I kept getting errors on the plugin menu. It looks like a wonderful plugin if you get it to work though!

I worked a little bit on a layout for Zombify as well. I changed the look once again. I’ll probably stick with the idea, since it’ll be a lot more flexible than the last idea.

I should have a lot more done on this website this week. I have become super motivated once again.

FaceBook Twittering in MySpace

Monday, April 28th, 2008

With the Sociagami program you can keep up with your FaceBook, Myspace, and Twitter all at one place. Sociagami lets you check your messages, comments, and more! You can even reply to messages and comments! You can also change all of your current updates at once in one click. And that’s not all, you can also browse your friends’ pictures! It’s really worth checking out.

Now what I’d like to see if them add Flickr as well. Also a Mac version would be great. :D

I’ll report later if I find any other neat feature or flaw!

Suprglu, 30boxes, and 43 things

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

In the last few days I went on a website joining frenzy and joined 4 more websites.

First off, I joined 30boxes. 30 boxes? 30 days? It’s a calendar! You can show off all of your events, to do lists, website updates, and more. It is also compatible with FaceBook so you can show buddies all your events. Not only is it compatible with FaceBook, it will pull any RSS feed you want on your profile page. Plus it keeps track of when you (or whoever) updates in the calendar. To see an example, check out my 30boxes.

Then I joined SuprGlu; the super glue of the internet. By using RSS feeds it puts all of your updates on one page. It is quite nice to see everything I do in one place. Plus it is like having a website you’ll never need to update.

My only drawback at the moment is the updating time. It still hasn’t updated some of my posts from yesterday. You can check out my suprglu.

Last night I joined 43 things. 43 things is where you can list all your goals you want to complete, see who else has this goal, and cheer on people with there goals. A simple was to motivate yourself to get to work. Let’s see if it actually works, even though I already fail numbers 2 and 3 on my list.

I also joined Upcoming. I haven’t played with it much yet, but it has helped me find events. Without Upcoming I might have not found out that there is going to be a “zombie walk” in Orlando this October! If you already have a yahoo id, it is very simple to join, since it is a part of yahoo. See events I am going to go to or want to go to here.

LJ crossposter

Sunday, March 16th, 2008

I got the LJXP ( LiveJournal ) Cross-poster to work. I had a hard time getting it to work. I thought something was wrong with the coding, but all that was wrong was the time options on my Wordpress. I didn’t set the timezone offset right. So I wasted my whole morning trying to fix something simple.

In the hizzle fo’ rizzle

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

I have a lot of catching up to do on the internet. I’ve been working on material for this website though. I’ve been working on two freeware web layouts. Sorry about the inactivity, I’ve just been a little bit busy. (Not to mention all of my free time has been going to World of Warcraft)

Anyways, I have plans to work on NMB this weekend! I also plan to work with some other little projects.

I made a new LiveJournal and a new Deviantart. Check them out.

movie

Last Monday Crystal, Kyle, and me all went to Bradley’s house to play Halo. It was a lot of fun. I hope we can get together more often to play. Then Tuesday Crystal came to college with Bradley and me. She watched a movie with me in my first class, anthropology, since there was a substitute teacher. We watched The Education of Shelby Knox. It is a documentary about a girl trying to get sexual education in her school. It deals with religious and sexual differences. Really, it wasn’t such a bad movie; it kept me watching it. It was terrible how the school board would just completely ignore the group’s opinion, and the protest against gays was absolutely sickening.

After second period we lost Crystal. We looked all over campus for her just to find out Paul left her in the wrong building. Nothing else really special happened at school worthy of talking about. After school we went to Bento Cafe. One of the waitresses gave us the wrong type of drink. She gave us boba teas with pearls but we asked for without. The pearls taste quite nasty in my opinion. When she came back with the new drinks, it was the same drink, but with the pearls scooped out. Since the straws were too small, the left over pearls in the tea got stuck in my straw. I was pretty angry and I really felt like punching the girl. Bento Cafe was my favorite restaurant, and I really don’t want to hate the place because some bitch screwing up my drink. I just wanted to take Crystal on a fun day out, but everything just seemed to go wrong.
